Synopsis:

A Doll’s House, Part 2 by Lucas Hnath is a modern sequel to Henrik Ibsen’s classic play A Doll’s House. Set 15 years after Nora Helmer famously slammed the door on her husband and children, the play imagines what happens when she returns. Now a successful and independent woman, Nora seeks to finalize her divorce from Torvald, only to find that the legal and social consequences of her departure are more complicated than she expected. As she confronts Torvald, their daughter Emmy, and the family’s longtime housekeeper, Anne Marie, the play explores themes of marriage, independence, and the cost of personal freedom. With sharp, witty dialogue and a contemporary sensibility, A Doll’s House, Part 2 reexamines Nora’s choices and the impact of her departure on those she left behind.

Educational Guest Speaker: DR. Catherine Forslund

Moon Dog Theatre is thrilled to welcome Dr. Catherine Forslund for a special opening night presentation before A Doll’s House, Part Two!

What kind of world did Nora leave behind when she slammed the door in 1879? What rights (or lack thereof) did women have as the 19th century gave way to the 20th? Before the curtain rises, Dr. Forslund will take us on a journey through the realities of coverture, ‘true womanhood,’ and the fight for women’s advancement in society.

Dr. Catherine Forslund, Ph.D., is the Isabel Ross Abbott Professor of History and Women’s Studies at Rockford University and a renowned expert in U.S. and diplomatic history.
